The museum is closed on
New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veteran’s Day, Thanksgiving Day, Day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Day after Christmas.

Visitors from around the world travel to the Darlington County Historical Commission & Museum to research and explore more than 14,000 years of local history, from the area’s earliest inhabitants through the 20th century. The gallery features fascinating artifacts, and multimedia presentations. Other exhibits highlight the area’s military history, sports heroes, decorative arts, people and more.

Monthly programs include children’s programs, a speaker series, opportunities for hands-on learning and local tours.

Q. What is the museum’s location, hours, accessibility, and parking information?

Q. May I take photographs and videos in the exhibits?
A. Non-flash Photographs and videos are allowed for private, non-commercial use unless otherwise posted.

Q. Is there anywhere to store my belongings at the museum?
A. Some small lockers are available for non-secure storage of personal belongings on the landing on second floor.

Q. Do you have wheelchairs?
A. Wheelchairs are available for visitor use. Please see visitor service staff for a wheelchair.

About the Archive

Q. Are pets allowed in the building?
A. Pets are not allowed in the museum with the exception of service animals.

Q. Is the Archive hiring?
A. As a department of Darlington County Government, all employment opportunities are posted on the Human Resources Job Posting website.

Q. Can I borrow materials from the Research Room?
A. No. We do not lend research materials in our collections.

Q. Will staff help me research my family history?
A. We have staff available to assist you in your journey.

Q. I have material that may be suited for your collection, do you take material donations?
A. If you are interested in donating material, email Caleb Ard at card@darcosc.net.

Q. Are there any restrictions on material I can access?
A. Yes. Some material, based on law or donor request, may have a moratorium imposed limiting access for a designated period of time.

Q. Can I bring my own computer, and scanner?
A. Yes.

Q. Do copyright law apply to your material?
A. Yes.

Q. Is there a fee for copies and material duplicated in the Research Room?
A. Yes. You can access a list of fees here.

Q. Is there a cutoff time when the staff will no longer pull any new material?
A. Yes. We will pull material from 9 AM through 4:30 PM.

A. Food, beverages, candy, and gum are not permitted in any exhibit gallery.

Q. May I touch objects in the exhibits?
A. We encourage you to touch and interact with reproduction objects and interactive exhibit components. However, we request that you do not touch museum artifacts.

Q. How many artifacts are in the museum’s collection?
A. The collection of the Darlington County Historical Commission is young and growing. However, it is connected with a substantial archive representing the Pee Dee Area.

Q. How do I request an image connected with the museum’s artifact collection, festivals, or events?
A. If you are interested in obtaining a copy of an image pertaining to the museum’s artifact collection, festivals, or events, email Caleb Ard at card@darcosc.net.

Q. Does the museum have a lost and found?
A. Lost and Found articles may be held at the receptionist desk as you enter the Museum. Exceptions include anything of value – iPads, Smartphones, Wallets, and Jewelry.
