The Darlington County Historical Commission and Museum has been chosen as one of only two recipients nationwide of the Memory Station Software Program, a prestigious honor that will bring cutting-edge digital preservation technology to local residents. The other recipient is located in Louisiana.

The patent-pending Memory Station Software and Scanner Bundle is designed to help people digitize and preserve their cherished memories with ease. The system features one-click simplicity and large buttons, allowing users to scan or import images, restore faded photographs and documents, record voice memories, and create MP4 videos combining audio and visual elements.

According to program developers, the technology addresses a significant need among older adults, with over 100 million Americans, 12 million Canadians, and 1.2 billion people globally over age 55 considering memory preservation highly important.

Museum staff underwent training on the new equipment today and will soon be prepared to offer free scanning services to the public. Community members can bring their documents, photographs, and other memorabilia to be digitized at NO COST.

The Darlington County Historical Commission and Museum is located at 204 Hewitt Street. For more information about the free scanning services, contact the museum at 843-398-4710.
